Downtown DevelopmentsThe City of Davison was recently awarded a Facade Improvement grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. The grant, similar to a grant received last year, is in the amount of $25,000 and is to be used for the removal of canopies in front of businesses in downtown Davison. The City will work closely with downtown property and business owners to ensure that this grant is another success story for downtown and the community in general.
While the City has not received any official paperwork outlining the specific terms of the grant, you can read the announcement letter and press release here.
Additionally, earlier this summer, the City was also designated as an Associate Main Street program (read the announcement). This program, a precursor to selection as a full-blown Main Street community, will offer training to representatives of the City and local businesses and other interested volunteers. The Main Street designation is coveted by communities throughout the State (as well as nationwide). The training opportunities will provide needed guidance and assistance on tools to improve downtown in a variety of ways: appearance, business, and promotion. If you are interested in serving as a Main Street volunteer, please contact a Downtown Development Authority member or City Hall.
The Community Development Department should be congratulated for its efforts to enhance downtown Davison. Keep up the good work!
